Case Study - Talis Information

Tallis handshake imageComplete Imaging plc has just upgraded the in-house print and document management network for Birmingham based software developer, Talis Information Limited.

Recognising the potential of the internet early on, Talis is committed to harnessing the power of the web in a form that will have a positive impact on people’s lives by liberating data and transforming computer-based services. Focusing on ‘connecting people and data usefully’, the company has a large catalogue of proven solutions for education, linked data and libraries.

The company has published its own sustainability report which details their commitment to the environment, and a full environmental assessment is made of all products and services as part of the procurement process.

Improving the environmental performance of their in-house print and document management systems was a key factor in the selection of new equipment and software. Having supplied Talis with copiers and printers for over 25 years, Complete Imaging were familiar with their requirements and were able to deliver the cost savings, increased functionality and quality that they now needed, whilst at the same time implementing waste controls and a ‘whole life’ equipment recycling programme, to meet the goals laid out in their published environmental statement.

By introducing default double-sided printing and PaperCut reporting software, the company reduced the total number of pages printed in the first six months by an impressive 147,500 A4 pages.

Following the removal of all the existing desktop printers, a new network has been created based around two Ricoh MPC4000s which are strategically placed around the facility. The network is supported by Complete Imaging’s Pre-emptive Maintenance Programme ( which addresses problems before they occur), 4-hour engineer call-outs and toner replenishment managed remotely by Complete Imaging.

Proof quality
The quality of the colour prints offered by the new equipment has also allowed the company to bring the Marketing Department’s ‘Proof of concept’ production in-house, further improving cost savings and concept lead times.

Kevin Worth, facilities manager, explains: ‘‘We have worked with Complete Imaging for many years so had no hesitation in consulting them for this major equipment upgrade. We were aware of some savings that could be made but were delighted when we received a comprehensive proposal which included a full breakdown of costs and cost savings, benefits and an environmental impact statement. We have now moved to a new level of customer service with Complete Imaging which was drawn-up as part of the new system set-up, with much of the day-to-day management of the network transferred to Complete. We get the cost savings, reliability and personal attention of our account manager plus we’ve reduced our impact on the environment – which is precisely what we wanted’’.
